Specific question regarding external hemorrhoids?

I’ve had an external hemorrhoid for a week now. This is the first time I’ve had one. I believe it was brought on by a combination of sitting all day, an unsuccessful bowel movement, and heavy intake of alcohol. On day 4 the hemorrhoid burst, but after the bleeding stopped, it remained about 1/3 of its original size, and nothing has changed since. It is not painful, but it does bleed a bit every now and then.
Are there any home remedies to deal with it at this stage, and if it remains in this condition, how long until I should see a doctor?
